Qualified Charitable Distributions
You may be looking for a way to make a big difference to help further the causes you care about. If you are 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution is a way you can help our community and benefit this year.

Benefits of a Qualified Charitable Distribution
- Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $108,000 from your IRA to a charity through Illinois Prairie Community Foundation
- Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
- Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
- Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts
- Help further the work and missions of a charity and Illinois Prairie Community Foundation
How a Qualified Charitable Distribution works
- Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to a charity through Illinois Prairie Community Foundation.
- Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to Illinois Prairie Community Foundation to help continue our important work in the community.
- Contact Illinois Prairie Community Foundation to ensure that the charity you wish to benefit is known to us and we will make the donation for you once your IRA gift is received.
- Please note that donations from your IRA into a Donor Advised Fund are not allowed as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Community Foundations are public charitable foundations, and as thus are eligible to receive IRA distributions into any endowment, fiscal sponsorship or field of interest fund.
